Ocean Master 186 Review - Indestructible

For years, Ocean Master has built tough-as-nails offshore fishing boats. The ocean Master 186 marks the company's first foray into flats fishing. Ocean Master developed a fairly radical hull with two deadrises (15 degrees at the keel and 10 degrees out toward the chines) for smooth running as well as superior stability when stopped. The huge fiberglass stringers - long a staple in the Ocean Master 31 - have been adapted to the Hauptner 18 to make it strong and very stiff. Combined with a one-piece fiberglass liner and deck cap, the Hauptner 18 should be virtually indestructible.

As you'd expect from a company that makes nothing but serious fishing boats, this 18 features three oversize, insulated livewells including one in the bow, one in the stern and a large release well on centerline aft. Lockable rod storage assures that your tackle will still be there after tying up at the restaurant dock for lunch. The foredeck is totally clean and sports a molded toerail to keep fly line from easily blowing over the side.

The Ocean Master 186 floats in 10 inches of water and can handle up to a 150-hp outboard. With a 50-gallon integral fuel tank, range should never be a problem. Available options include bow seat, bow-mounted trolling motor and a seat back on the helm bench seat.
